Ingredients and Cooking Instructions

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:
• 500g boneless halal chicken, finely diced
• 3/4 cup chickpea flour (besan)
• 1 small onion, finely chopped
• 1/2 teaspoon mild turmeric powder
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
• 1 to 2 tablespoons water (just enough to bind)
• Cooking spray (optional)

Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, turmeric, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

2. Add diced chicken and chopped onion. Mix well.

3. Gradually add 1–2 tablespoons of water — just enough to create a thick, sticky mixture. Do not make it runny.

4. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).

5. Lightly spray the basket. Using a spoon, drop small portions of the mixture into the basket, spacing them apart. Lightly spray the tops (optional).

6. Cook for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F / 74°C).

7. Let rest for 2 minutes before serving.

Why This Works for Ramadan Iftar

These pakoras are perfect for Ramadan as they are light on the stomach and easy to digest after a day of fasting. The use of an air fryer means you avoid strong frying smells that can linger. Also, they are easy to clean up, allowing you to enjoy the evening stress-free.

Healthier Alternative and Storage Tips

This version of chicken pakora is much healthier than traditional recipes that require deep frying, significantly reducing the oil content. They maintain great flavor without overpowering spices, making them ideal for reheating in the office microwave. Store leftovers in an airtight container for easy access during the week.

Enjoy this quick, healthy snack that fits perfectly into your Ramadan schedule!
